  • Seeing the forest from the trees

    Published: 15th November 2023

This report analyses the current landscape of Afforestation / Reforestation / Revegetation (ARR) in the voluntary carbon market, whilst also highlighting opportunities for improvement.

  • Blockchain and the carbon markets

    Published: 20th July 2023

This paper assesses the potential value Blockchain can deliver to the carbon markets, current approaches taken by market participants, and then outlines how SOCIALCARBON and Wilder Earth have approached the utilization of Blockchain and the rationale for doing so.

  • Embedding Biodiversity Monitoring into Nature-Based Solutions

    Published: 13th June 2023

The loss of biodiversity is considered one of the most pressing environmental issues facing the planet today. It has far reaching consequences for ecosystems and society in general.

This paper assesses the need for biodiversity monitoring for successful nature-based solutions, outlining the models available and how SOCIALCARBON approaches biodiversity.

  • 2022 Annual Report

    Published: 13 March 2023

View the results achieved in our first year as a full carbon standard.

  • SOCIALCARBON becomes ICROA approved

On the 1st March 2023, SOCIALCARBON was endorsed by ICROA. ICROA Accredited Organisations will be able to use SOCIALCARBON credits with immediate effect.

This represents a big milestone from the Standard, validating its quality and supporting the project developers using the Standard to develop projects that benefit people and planet.

  • Protecting nature through wastewater treatment - A methodology to accelerate the implementation of wastewater treatment plants.

    Published: 21st June 2022

Today, an estimated 80 percent of global wastewater is being discharged untreated into the world’s waterways. The impact of which includes: a loss of ecosystem services and economic opportunities; spreading of “Dead Zones” impacting fisheries, livelihoods and the food chain; and health impacts due to waterborne diseases.

This paper outlines an approach to use climate finance to accelerate the implementation of wastewater treatment plants in developing countries.

  • New methodology launched for treating Harmful Algae Blooms

On the 17th February 2023, we published a new methodology for the treatment of harmful algae blooms in freshwater. This is the first of its kind and opens up new opportunity for water-based carbon sequestration projects.

  • Financing conservation in the long term - the need to look beyond REDD+ and towards incremental carbon stock growth.

    Published: 25th October 2022

In this paper we examine the core components of REDD+, results achieved so far, criticisms, and assess whether it offers a long term solution for conservation finance.

In addition, we recommend a hybrid approach, using REDD+ as a solution to address deforestation and degradation at pace, and then transitioning to conservation based projects thereafter.

  • Conserving areas of biodiversity importance - A methodology to transform conservation financing.

    Published: 6th June 2022

Biodiversity is under threat across the globe and so is conservation. New financing models are required to scale global conservation activities to avoid the collapse of ecosystems.

This paper proposes a new methodology under the SOCIALCARBON Standard to quantify the carbon removals achieved through conservation activities, whilst embedding community and biodiversity co-benefits.
